How To Make Great Northern Beans

To make Great Northern Beans, you will need to have a package of dry beans, some smoked meat of your choice (I’m using ham hocks), celery, onions, garlic, and some seasonings. Since this is a crockpot recipe, you will need a 7qt crock pot.

Add your smoked meat to the crock pot, Followed by the white beans, celery, onions, minced garlic, thyme, parsley, and pepper. The smoked meat will provide the necessary salt for this recipe. As always, salt and pepper to your taste.

Add 8 cups of chicken broth. Stir to incorporate the seasonings with the northern beans, ham, garlic, onions, and celery.

Cover and cook for 6-8 hours or until your Northern beans are done/tender, and the ham hocks fall off the bone when stirred. Throughout the cooking time, you’ll want to stir the pot to be sure nothing is sticking to the bottom.

Now you know how to make Great Northern beans in the crockpot. This meal is very filling. You can serve this northern bean soup with corn bread. Jiffy corn muffin mix is super inexpensive. The entire  meal can be made for less than $15
