How to make a gyro

So, a traditional Gyro (pronounced year-o) is made with pork. In most American restaurants and fast food joints you will find a Gyro is made with lamb, beef, or chicken. This Gyro meat recipe is mde with a combination of ground lamb and ground beef. 

To make a Gyro at home, you’ll need ground beef, ground lamb, garlic, onion, marjoram, rosemary, salt, and pepper.

Blend all of the Gyro meat ingredients in a food processor until it’s a smooth, paste consistency. Add the meat mixture to a loaf pan and bake.  Once the meat cools a bit, you can slice it intothin strips to prepare your sandwich on pita bread. Yum!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground lamb
  • 1 tbsp garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp marjoram dried
  • 1 tbsp rosemary ground
  • 2 tsp Kosher salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Instructions
 

  • Pre heat oven to 325 degrees.
  • Place the onions in a food processor and process for 10-15 seconds. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, add the lamb, beef, garlic, processed onions, and sesasonings.
  • Add all ingrediets to food processor and process til smooth. Stop the processor as needed to scrape down sides of bowl.
  • Once everything is all blended together, place the meat mince into a loaf pan and shape into a meatloaf.
  • Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and drain off any fat. Slice and serve on pita bread with tzatziki sauce, chopped onion, tomatoes and feta cheese.
